The Iredell Council on Aging is a private, not-for-profit agency devoted to improving the quality of life and maintaining independent living for Iredell’s older adults, 60 and over.  There is no set fee for services, but clients are asked to make a contribution to a cost-sharing program based on their income.  Also, The Iredell Senior Center and South Iredell Senior Center offer a wide range of health, education, recreation, and social activities for older adults.

SERVICES 

CONGREGATE MEALS- The nutrition programs help meet the nutritional needs of older adults in Iredell County.  The congregate (group) sites are located at the Troutman Baptist Church in Troutman (704 677 2386), Central United Methodist Church in Mooresville (704 664 4915), Summit Village Community Center in Statesville (704 761 4741), and the Harmony United Methodist Church in Harmony (704 546 7006).  Over 100 participants enjoy activities,fellowship and a hot, lunch-time meal Monday through Friday.

 

HOME DELIVERED MEALS-Home-delivered meals are available in Mooresville, Statesville and Harmony within the city or town limits.  Clients must be home-bound because of a physical or mental condition except for medical appointments.  They must live alone or not have anyone in the home that is willing or able to prepare meals.  Volunteers deliver the meals Monday through Friday.

 

CHORE SERVICE-Older adults who live alone, and because of physical limitations are unable to complete necessary housekeeping chores are eligible for this service.  Qualified

in-home aides provide assistance with light cleaning such as vacuuming, damp mopping, dusting, laundry, errands, etc.  A home visit must be completed by the program director along with quarterly monitoring visits.

 

RESPITE-Respite Care is provided to a primary caregiver responsible for the 24-hour care of a spouse or other family member who cannot be left alone due to a physical or mental condition.  Qualified, in-home aides provide both personal care and assistance with light housekeeping chores.  A home visit must be completed by the program director along with quarterly monitoring visits.

TRANSPORTATION-Transportation is available for older adults going to medical appointments, human service agencies, shopping and the nutrition sites.  The Statesville van is handicapped accessible.  Reservations must be made by 10:00 AM two days before your appointment unless client is new to the system then one week in advance to complete paperwork.
